Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Make a white sauce by melting margarine in a saucepan, then stirring in flour, milk, and salt on the stovetop.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook until it thickens, about 30 seconds.
  4. Add 1 1/2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese to the sauce and stir until melted.
  5. Boil the elbow macaroni until tender, then drain.
  6. Stir the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce.
  7. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish.
  8. Top with the remaining cheese.
  9. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes until bubbly and golden on top.
