Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different type of meat for this goulash?

Yes, you can substitute the pork shoulder with beef or even chicken. However, cooking times may vary; beef typically requires longer to become tender, while chicken will cook faster. Adjust simmering time accordingly to ensure the meat is properly cooked.

What can I serve with Hungarian Pork Goulash?

Hungarian Pork Goulash pairs well with crusty bread, dumplings, or warm German potato salad. You can also serve it over egg noodles or with rice to soak up the flavorful gravy. A side of pickles or a simple salad can add a refreshing contrast.

How do I thicken the goulash if it's too watery?

If your goulash is too watery, you can create a slurry with additional flour and a bit of water, then stir it into the stew during the simmering stage. Allow it to cook for a few more minutes to thicken. Alternatively, let it simmer uncovered to reduce the liquid.
