Ingredients

  • 3 cups warm water
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon heaping shortening
  • flour
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 package yeast

Instructions

  1. Start with 2 cups of flour, then beat it well into the other ingredients.
  2. Keep adding flour until the dough is still sticky, then knead on a floured surface until punchy.
  3. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl until it doubles in size.
  4. Place the dough in greased loaf pans and let rise until doubled again.
  5. Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes.
  6. Cool on racks, then butter and cover with a paper towel.
