Ingredients

  • 2 c. unsifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 Tbsp. butter, softened
  • 1 c. buttermilk
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. seedless raisins

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the raisins.
  5. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk.
  6. Mix until just combined; do not overwork the dough.
  7. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a round loaf.
  8. Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Cut a cross on the top of the loaf with a sharp knife.
  10. Bake for about 30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  11. Let cool slightly before slicing.
