Tips & Substitutions

For a creamier filling, consider adding a bit of grated Parmesan cheese along with the mozzarella. You can substitute cottage cheese for ricotta if you prefer a lighter option. If you like a bit of spice, add some red pepper flakes to the tomato sauce mixture. You can also use whole wheat tortillas for a healthier twist.

Serving Suggestions

Serve the Italian tortillas hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley for a pop of color. They pair beautifully with a side salad or a warm bowl of Tuscan Tomato Soup for a comforting meal. A sprinkle of extra Parmesan on top just before serving adds a delightful finishing touch.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, place in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes, or until warmed through. You can also microwave individual portions, covering them with a damp paper towel to retain moisture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make these tortillas ahead of time?

Yes, you can prepare the filled tortillas and assemble them in the baking dish a day in advance. Just cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate. When ready to bake, remove from the fridge and let sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking to ensure even cooking.

What can I use instead of spinach?

If you're not a fan of spinach, you can substitute it with other leafy greens such as kale or Swiss chard. Alternatively, you could use sautéed mushrooms or roasted zucchini for a different flavor profile, keeping in line with the Italian recipes theme.

Can I freeze these Italian tortillas?

Absolutely! You can freeze the assembled but unbaked tortillas. Wrap them tightly in foil or plastic wrap and store in a freezer-safe container. They can be frozen for up to 2 months. When ready to enjoy, bake them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
