Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup favorite jam

Instructions

  1. Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Add egg yolks, vanilla, and salt; beat well.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing well; shape into 3/4-inch balls.
  4. Dip in slightly beaten egg whites, then roll in chopped walnuts.
  5. Place 1 inch apart onto greased cookie sheet.
  6. Press down the center of each cookie with your thumb.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 15 to 17 minutes.
  8. Cool slightly; remove from pan and cool on a rack.
  9. Just before serving, place jam in the center of each cookie.
