  • 1 Tbsp. whole cloves
  • 1 Tbsp. allspice
  • 4 or 5 sticks cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. mace or 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. ginger
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. brown sugar
  • 1 pt. vodka or white wine
  • 2 lemons, sliced
  • 2 oranges, sliced

Instructions

  1. Simmer all ingredients except vodka, lemons, and oranges for 30 minutes.
  2. Garnish with slices of orange and lemon.
  3. Pour in vodka.
  4. Serve warm.

Tips & Substitutions

For a deeper flavor, consider letting the mixture simmer longer than 30 minutes, but keep an eye on it to prevent burning. If you prefer a non-alcoholic version, replace vodka with additional apple juice or a splash of ginger ale. Whole spices provide more flavor than ground, but you can use ground spices if needed. Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar to your taste.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Jennifer's Wassail warm in mugs, garnished with extra slices of lemon and orange for a festive touch. This drink pairs beautifully with savory snacks like cheese platters or sweet treats like cookies. For a unique experience, consider serving it alongside Brian's Kahlua Liqueur for a delightful cocktail pairing.

Storage & Reheating

Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, warm gently on the stove over low heat, stirring occasionally, to avoid scorching. If the wassail has thickened, you can add a bit more apple juice or water to reach your desired consistency before serving.
