- Dissolve yeast, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 tablespoon water in a small bowl.
- Beat 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup oil, and 1/2 cup warm water together.
- Combine the dissolved yeast mixture with the beaten mixture and stir in flour until well blended.
- Let the dough rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
- Punch down the dough, then roll out and cut into squares.
- Pat the center of each square with butter or oil, then fold over.
- Let the rolls rise again until doubled in size.
- Bake at 300°F (150°C) for 20 minutes until golden.
