Ingredients

  • 2 oz. jar instant coffee or freeze dried coffee
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 4/5 quart inexpensive bourbon or vodka

Instructions

  1. Pour the instant coffee into a large sterilized glass jug.
  2. Combine sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves.
  3. Let the syrup cool slightly, then add it to the coffee in the jug.
  4. Split the vanilla bean lengthwise and add it to the mixture.
  5. Pour in the bourbon or vodka.
  6. Seal the jug tightly and shake well.
  7. Let the mixture sit for at least 2 weeks, shaking occasionally, to allow flavors to meld.
