Keeflies are delicate, flaky pastry cookies filled with nut filling, offering a buttery, rich flavor perfect for special occasions or teatime treats.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 pound butter
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 1/2 pint sour cream or evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and butter like pastry; add beaten egg yolks and sour cream or evaporated milk; work until dough is smooth.
  2. Roll the dough into long rolls as for icebox cookies.
  3. Chill in refrigerator for at least 24 hours, preferably a couple of days.
  4. Cut the chilled dough into 1/2-inch slices.
  5. Cut these slices into four pieces and roll each piece in the palm of your hand into a ball.
  6. Place the balls on a slightly floured board and roll each into a paper-thin circle.
  7. Fill the circles with your preferred nut filling.
