"Koulourakia" - Easter Cookies

Easter cookies with a buttery, nutmeg-flavored dough, shaped into traditional knots. Perfect for festive occasions and enjoyed with coffee or tea.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb butter
  • 1/2 cup Wesson oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 jigger cognac
  • dash of nutmeg
  • 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy; add Wesson oil and beat.
  2. Add eggs all at once and beat again.
  3. Mix baking powder with flour, adding a dash of nutmeg if desired.
  4. Add cognac to the creamed butter mixture, then start adding flour and milk gradually.
  5. Shape the dough into knots or desired shapes and place on baking sheet.
  6. Brush tops of cookies with egg wash and sprinkle them with sesame seed.
  7. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until golden brown.
