Ingredients

  • 2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/4 lb. shortening
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 pkg. loose yeast
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1 egg
  • 2 egg yolks

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, sugar, shortening, salt, and yeast in a mixing bowl.
  2. Let the mixture sit until the yeast activates, about 5-10 minutes.
  3. Add beaten egg and egg yolks to the cooled milk mixture.
  4. Gradually add flour, lukewarm water, and additional sugar, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Shape the dough into a loaf and place it in a greased bread pan.
  9. Bake for 45 to 60 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing.
