Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 cups cake flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 6 egg whites

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together.
  3. Add sifted dry ingredients alternatively with milk and water; beat smooth after each addition.
  4. Add vanilla and lemon extracts.
  5. Fold in beaten egg whites.
  6. Pour batter into two waxed paper-lined 9-inch square pans.

  8. Assemble layers with two-thirds of the Seven Minute Frosting tinted pink.
