Ingredients

  • 8 baking apples
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  1. Wash, pare, quarter, and core the apples.
  2. Cut each quarter lengthwise into 3 or 4 slices.
  3. Put sliced apples in the bottom of a buttered baking dish.
  4. Add water to the dish.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour.
  6. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the apples.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
