Ingredients

  • White Lily self-rising flour
  • 1/2 cup Crisco
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • soft liquid Parkay margarine

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or wooden tray, spread out about 4 cups of self-rising flour and make a hole in the center, patting it down so the flour will not be loose.
  2. Pour buttermilk into the hole, then add Crisco.
  3. Start with your hands working the flour into the milk and Crisco gradually.
  4. Do not make the dough too stiff, as biscuits will be tough and hard.
  5. When the dough reaches a medium thickness, knead 6 to 12 times, adding more flour if needed.
