Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 1/2 cups cherries, blackberries, strawberries, or other fruit

Instructions

  1. Use a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  3. Melt the butter in the baking pan as the oven preheats.
  4. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  5. Blend the dry ingredients with the milk until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter over the melted butter in the pan.
  7. Add the cherries or other fruit on top of the batter.
  8. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 30 minutes until the batter rises and the fruit sinks.
  9. Serve warm with ice cream, whipped cream, or on its own.
