- Cream together the shortening and sugar; mix the eggs into the mixture.
- Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside on wax paper.
- Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the milk to the creamed mixture, mixing completely after each addition.
- Stir in the chopped nuts and grated lemon peel, blending well.
- Pour the batter into a buttered bread pan.
- Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 1 hour.
- After baking, mix the juice of one lemon over the top of the loaf.
- Let stand a few minutes, then remove from the pan and cool.
- Slice when cool and serve.
