Ingredients

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 package yeast
  • 2 tablespoons lard
  • 1 c. warm water

Instructions

  1. Mix 1/2 cup warm water and yeast and set aside.
  2. Mix all ingredients except yeast well, then add the yeast mixture and stir again. Let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the mixture to a large crock of flour, forming a hole in the center. Pour the yeast mixture into the hole and mix well, gradually adding flour until a dough forms.
  4. Turn the dough onto floured paper and knead for about 5 minutes, adding a little flour as needed.
  5. Place the dough in a pot with a lid and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours.
  6. Punch down the dough, knead a few times, then divide into 4 equal balls.
  7. Squeeze each ball into 3 smaller balls, making 12 round biscuits.
  8. Grease a baking pan and turn each biscuit top in butter or grease, then flip to coat the tops.
  9. Arrange the biscuits in the pan, let them rise until doubled in size.
  10. Bake until golden brown, approximately 10 to 12 minutes.
