Ingredients

  • 16 to 20 large cucumbers
  • 7 cups sugar
  • 7 cups water
  • 7 cups vinegar
  • 7 teaspoons canning salt (not iodized)
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric

Instructions

  1. Slice cucumbers lengthwise.
  2. Pack the cucumber slices in jars with plenty of dill.
  3. Combine sugar, water, vinegar, canning salt, and turmeric; heat until it boils.
  4. Let the brine cool to lukewarm and pour over the packed cucumbers.
  5. Place jars in a cold pack to ensure they are tightly sealed.
  6. Add cold water to cover the jars completely.
  7. Bring the jars just to a boil and then remove immediately.
