Luncheon Buns

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. yeast
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 1/2 c. water
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening
  • flour

Instructions

  1. Combine yeast, salt, sugar, eggs, water, shortening, and enough flour to form a soft dough.
  2. Let the dough rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  4. Use butter and cornmeal to coat the buns.
  5. Shape the risen dough into individual buns and place on a baking sheet.
  6. Cut a small cross or slit on the tops of the buns after they have risen for about 30 minutes.
  7. Let the buns rise a little longer if needed.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven until nicely browned, about 15 minutes.
