Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 lb. butter
  • 4 packages dates (7 1/4 oz. each)
  • 3/4 lb. shelled English walnuts
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • 4 cups flour
  • brandy

Instructions

  1. Cream butter and sugar until smooth.
  2. Add beaten eggs gradually, mixing well.
  3. Stir in vanilla, lemon juice, and cinnamon.
  4. Sift flour into a large bowl.
  5. Cut dates into the flour and toss to coat.
  6. Add the floured dates to the batter and mix well.
  7. Fold in shelled English walnuts.
  8. Pour batter into a lightly greased tube or Bundt pan.
  9. Bake at 250°F (121°C) for 2 to 2 1/4 hours.
  10. Test doneness with a straw; it should come out clean.
