Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl.
  2. Cut in the shortening with a pastry knife until the mixture resembles cornmeal.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then stir in the vinegar and cold water.
  4. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and stir until combined.
  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts and shape each into a ball.
  6. Wrap each dough ball tightly and chill in the refrigerator.
  7. Dough can be frozen for up to 1 week in the refrigerator.
