Ingredients

  • 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon maple flavoring

Instructions

  1. Mix 2 cups flour, sugar, salt, and yeast in a large bowl.
  2. Add margarine and stir until combined.
  3. Gradually add hot water, stirring quickly and thoroughly.
  4. Add eggs and 1/2 cup flour; stir or beat well.
  5. Stir in 3 to 4 more cups of flour to form a soft dough.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes.
  7. Cover with plastic wrap and let sit for 30 minutes.
  8. Meanwhile, combine chopped pecans, brown sugar, and maple flavoring.
  9. Divide the dough into two parts.
  10. On a floured surface, roll one part into a 16 x 8-inch rectangle.
  11. Brush the rectangle with melted margarine and sprinkle with half of the pecan mixture.
  12. Roll up the dough from the long side to form a 16-inch roll.
  13. Pinch seams to seal and shape into a circle on a greased baking sheet.
  14. Seal the ends together firmly to form a ring.
  15. Using scissors, cut 2/3 of the way into the ring at 1-inch intervals.
  16. Repeat the process with the second dough portion and remaining filling.
  17. Brush the rings with oil and cover loosely with plastic wrap.
  18. Refrigerate for 2 to 24 hours before baking.
