Ingredients

  • soy sauce or tamara sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 1 Tbsp. nutritional yeast flakes
  • 1/4 tsp. basil
  • cayenne to taste
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Cover the bottom of a dish or pan with tamara sauce and add 1 or 2 tablespoons of water, depending on the amount of tofu and pan size.
  2. Add the spices: thyme, basil, cayenne, onion and garlic powder.
  3. Place the sliced tofu in the marinade for 10 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally to coat evenly.
  4. Heat a small amount of oil in a skillet, covering the bottom.
  5. Sauté the tofu over medium heat until browned on both sides.
  6. For a savory sauce, add a little water and the remaining marinade to the skillet, heat, and serve over the tofu or accompanying food.
  7. For a more robust flavor, optionally add chili powder, parsley flakes, canola, soy or olive oil, paprika, oregano, or lemon juice.
