Ingredients

  • 8 or 9 large potatoes
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pint half and half or milk
  • 1/4 pound Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup fresh bread crumbs

Instructions

  1. Boil large potatoes for 10 minutes with jackets on; cool.
  2. Peel and grate the cooled potatoes.
  3. Melt 1/2 cup of butter or oleo and add the half and half or milk.
  4. Grate the Cheddar cheese.
  5. Layer grated potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese in three layers in a 9 x 13-inch pan.
  6. Top the layered potatoes with fresh bread crumbs.
  7. Bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
