Homemade bread with a slightly sweet flavor from honey, featuring a tender crumb and crusty exterior, perfect for breakfast or a hearty meal with butter.

Ingredients

  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 3 packages yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 8 cups plain flour

Instructions

  1. Mix eggs, boiling water, honey, salt, and Crisco in a bowl.
  2. Mix yeast with warm water and sugar and let it rise.
  3. Blend the yeast mixture and egg mixture with a mixer. Add about half the flour and mix.
  4. Add remaining flour and mix again until dough is smooth.
  5. Cover the dough with foil and let stand overnight in the refrigerator.
  6. Dump the dough onto a floured counter and divide into 6 loaves.
  7. Roll and cut the loaves as desired.
  8. Preheat oven to 200°F (93°C).
  9. Turn off the oven and let the loaves set inside for 1.5 hours.
  10. Then, turn the oven to 300°F (149°C) and bake the loaves for 30 minutes.
  11. Immediately brush the loaves with butter when taken out of the oven.
