Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 1/2 cup Crisco shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, slowly add milk to flour and salt to make a smooth paste.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thick.
  3. Cool completely; refrigerate if mixture becomes lumpy, then beat until smooth.
  4. In a small bowl of an electric mixer, cream sugar, shortening, and margarine until fluffy.
  5. With the mixer running at slow speed, add the flour mixture a tablespoon at a time.
  6. Add vanilla and beat at high speed until stiff and fluffy.
