  • 1/4 to 1/2 c. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. curry
  • 1/4 c. soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper

Instructions

  1. Put steak in large Ziploc bag and add mixture of Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, curry, soy sauce, onion powder, and pepper.
  2. Marinate for 8 hours or more.
  3. Remove meat from marinade and lay a single layer on a cookie sheet.
  4. Set oven at the lowest setting.
  5. Cook for 10 hours with the oven door propped open slightly with a folded wet dishcloth.

Tips & Substitutions

For best results, ensure the steak is semi-frozen for easier slicing. Adjust salt based on your preference; you can substitute with low-sodium soy sauce if desired. Adding a pinch of smoked paprika can enhance the flavor. Marinating overnight will yield a more intense flavor. If you prefer a spicy kick, incorporate red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Millies Beef Jerky as a protein-packed snack or as part of a charcuterie board. It pairs well with cheese, nuts, and dried fruit, making it a great addition to any gathering. For a fun twist, mix it into a salad or use it as a topping for a savory Lazy Cobbler(Dump Cake).

Storage & Reheating

Store leftover beef jerky in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks. For longer storage, vacuum-seal the jerky and keep it in the freezer, where it can last for several months. To reheat, simply place the jerky in a low oven for a few minutes to revive its texture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a different cut of meat for this jerky?

Yes, while round steak is a great choice for jerky due to its lean nature, you can also use flank steak or sirloin. Just ensure that the meat is trimmed of excess fat, as fat can spoil during storage and affect the jerky's shelf life.

How can I make this jerky spicier?

To add heat, incorporate spices like cayenne pepper or crushed red pepper flakes into the marinade. You can also use a spicy Worcestershire sauce or add hot sauce to the mix, adjusting to your preferred spice level.

What is the best way to cut the steak for jerky?

For even drying, slice the steak against the grain into 1/4-inch thick strips. Cutting against the grain helps to ensure a tender bite. If you're unsure, you can freeze the steak for about 30 minutes to make slicing easier.
