  • 1/2 cup Kahlua
  • 3 tsp. chocolate syrup

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sweetened condensed milk, light cream, and instant coffee crystals.
  2. Cook and stir over medium heat until coffee crystals are dissolved.
  3. Gradually stir about half of the hot mixture into the beaten egg yolk.
  4. Return all of the mixture to the saucepan.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil.
  6. Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
  7. Cook and stir for an additional 2 minutes.
  8. Remove the saucepan from heat.
  9. Stir in whiskey, Kahlua, and chocolate syrup.
  10. Cool the mixture.
  11. Bottle and store in the refrigerator.

Tips & Substitutions

For a richer flavor, consider using dark chocolate syrup instead of regular. If you want to avoid raw egg yolk, you can substitute it with a tablespoon of cornstarch mixed with water to achieve a similar thickness. Be sure to dissolve the instant coffee crystals completely for a smooth texture. Additionally, chill your mixing bowl and utensils before starting to keep the mixture cool.

Serving Suggestions

Serve this decadent liqueur over ice or blend it into coffee for a delightful mocha experience. It pairs beautifully with desserts like Centennial Cake for a perfect after-dinner treat. For a fun twist, mix it into cocktails or drizzle it over ice cream for a unique dessert topping.

Storage & Reheating

Store the Mocha Creme Liqueur in an airtight bottle in the refrigerator. It can last up to two weeks when properly sealed. If you notice any separation, simply shake the bottle gently before serving. Avoid freezing, as this can affect the texture and flavor of the liqueur.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use different types of alcohol in this recipe?

Yes, you can experiment with different spirits! While whiskey is traditional, you can try rum or vodka for a different flavor profile. Keep in mind that the choice of alcohol will change the overall taste, so select one that complements the coffee and chocolate notes.

What can I do if my mixture doesn't thicken?

If your mixture doesn't thicken after cooking for the suggested time, continue cooking and stirring over medium heat. If it remains too thin, you can mix a small amount of cornstarch with water and add it to the mixture to help it reach the desired consistency.

Is it safe to consume the raw egg yolk in this recipe?

If you're concerned about consuming raw egg yolk, you can use pasteurized eggs, which are safe to eat raw. Alternatively, you could replace the egg yolk with a thickening agent like cornstarch to achieve the desired texture without the risk.
