Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 5 tablespoons cold butter
  • 2 tablespoons light molasses
  • 6 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl.
  2. Cut in cold butter with a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Pour molasses into a measuring cup.
  4. Add milk to the molasses to make 1/2 cup total liquid.
  5. Add the liquids to the dry ingredients.
  6. Mix with a fork until dough clings together.
  7. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto an ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 425°F (220°C) for 13 to 15 minutes until golden and baked through.
  9. Cool slightly on a wire rack.
  10. Serve warm or cool completely and serve cold.
