Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp. brown sugar
  • 2 c. whole wheat flour
  • 1 c. sifted all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. milk
  • 3/4 c. water
  • 3/4 c. molasses
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Instructions

  1. Mix together sugar, whole wheat flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Combine milk, water, and molasses.
  3. Add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix until smooth.
  5. Add chopped walnuts to the batter.
  6. Pour the batter into a greased 9 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 2 1/2-inch loaf pan.
  7. Let stand for 20 minutes.
  8. Bake in a preheated 350°F oven for 1 1/2 hours.
  9. Cool the bread for 5 minutes.
  10. Remove from the pan and allow to cool completely.
  11. Slice into thin slices after storing overnight.
