Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup confectioners sugar, sifted
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Cream the butter until fluffy.
  2. Add the sifted confectioners sugar and cream well.
  3. Combine the all-purpose flour and cornstarch, then sift together twice to ensure they are well mixed.
  4. Gradually add the flour and cornstarch mixture to the butter and sugar, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Knead the dough with your hands if necessary until it is smooth.
  6. On a floured surface, pat the dough into a square about 1/2 inch thick.
  7. Cut the dough into strips, 2 inches wide and as long as desired.
  8. Transfer the strips to a baking sheet and bake in a 300°F (150°C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool; they will harden as they cool.
  10. Store in a cool, dry place away from heat.
