Ingredients

  • 1 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 1 tablespoon salt

Instructions

  1. In 1/2 cup warm water, add yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar. Set aside to activate.
  2. In a bowl, combine 1 cup boiling water, 3 rounded tablespoons shortening, and 1/2 cup sugar. Stir until shortening melts.
  3. Add 1 cup cold water to the mixture and stir.
  4. Mix in the yeast and sugar mixture along with 1 tablespoon salt.
  5. Gradually add 5 or more cups of flour and stir well to form a dough.
  6. Knead the dough by hand until soft and elastic.
  7. Grease a bowl and place the dough inside.
  8. Cover and let sit overnight in the refrigerator or for several hours.
  9. Form the dough into rolls and place on a baking sheet.
  10. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes until golden brown.
