- In 1/2 cup warm water, add yeast and 1 teaspoon sugar. Set aside to activate.
- In a bowl, combine 1 cup boiling water, 3 rounded tablespoons shortening, and 1/2 cup sugar. Stir until shortening melts.
- Add 1 cup cold water to the mixture and stir.
- Mix in the yeast and sugar mixture along with 1 tablespoon salt.
- Gradually add 5 or more cups of flour and stir well to form a dough.
- Knead the dough by hand until soft and elastic.
- Grease a bowl and place the dough inside.
- Cover and let sit overnight in the refrigerator or for several hours.
- Form the dough into rolls and place on a baking sheet.
- Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20 minutes until golden brown.
