Instructions
- Combine cold water, sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add shortening to boiling water, then pour into the cold water mixture.
- Add beaten eggs and dissolved yeast cakes to the mixture.
- Add 3 heaping cups of sifted flour, beating well after each addition.
- Add 4 to 5 more cups of flour gradually, beating as you add each cup.
- Knead the dough for 5 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in the refrigerator to rise for at least several hours.
- Shape the dough into rolls and place in a warm area to rise until doubled in size.
- Bake at 400°F (204°C) until golden brown and done.
