Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/4 cup lard
  • 3 teaspoons Bakewell cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soda
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk

Instructions

  1. Cut lard into flour sifted with soda, sugar, and Bakewell cream.
  2. Add milk and mix until just combined.
  3. Knead lightly on a floured surface.
  4. Cut at least 1/2-inch thick and place on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake in a 450°F oven until browned, about 10 minutes.
