Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3 packages dry yeast
  • 1/2 to 1 cup dry milk
  • 1/4 to 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 to 1 cup shortening
  • 4 teaspoons salt
  • 2 to 4 eggs
  • 6 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Place water, yeast, milk, sugar, shortening, eggs, salt, and 6 cups of flour in a mixer bowl.
  2. Beat at low speed for 3 minutes, scraping the bowl from time to time.
  3. Pour over 6 1/2 to 7 cups of flour and mix with a spoon.
  4. Knead the dough and let it rise until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and shape into 4 loaves.
  6. Let the loaves rise again and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 35 minutes.
