- Wash, core, and cut each tomato into 8 chunks.
- Peel the onions and chop them roughly; add to the tomatoes.
- Add butter or oil, salt, pepper, and herbs (basil, tarragon, oregano).
- Wrap the mixture in foil and seal the edges well, possibly in 2 layers.
- Tuck the foil package down in the coals or place it on the grill.
- Cook for 15 to 30 minutes until the onions are tender, depending on the heat.
- Serve with grilled hamburgers, steak, or chicken for an easy no-pot supper.
