Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 to 1 cup nuts

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly cream the shortening and brown sugar together.
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Sift together the flour, soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture.
  5. Mix in 1/2 to 1 cup of nuts.
  6. Drop the dough by teaspoonfuls onto a cookie sheet.
  7. Bake in a 350°F oven for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
