Nut Crusted Cookie Squares

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups flour
  • 6 oz. chocolate pieces
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds (or other chopped nut)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Cream the butter until fluffy. Add the brown sugar and beat until light. Mix in the vanilla and the egg. Add the flour and blend well. Spread evenly into an ungreased 12x18" pan, about 1/4" thick. Bake until light brown (not dark), about 15 minutes.
  2. While the crust bakes, melt the chocolate pieces over low heat on the stove. Once the crust comes out of the oven, spread the melted chocolate over the hot crust, frosting evenly. Sprinkle with nuts. Cut into squares (or diamonds) while still hot.
