Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup regular milk
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Butter a 9 x 13 inch pan and set aside.
  2. In a large, heavy pan, mix cocoa, sugar, and salt.
  3. Stir in both milks (regular milk and additional milk).
  4. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture comes to a full boil.
  5. Boil without stirring until the mixture reaches a soft ball stage (234°F on candy thermometer).
  6. Remove from heat, add vanilla and margarine, but do not stir.
  7. Allow the mixture to cool until lukewarm (about 110°F).
  8. Beat with a wooden spoon until the fudge thickens.
  9. Quickly spread the fudge into the buttered pan.
  10. Allow to cool completely, then cut into squares.
