Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 quart milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk almost to boiling point in a saucepan.
  2. Mix sugar, flour, and beaten eggs together in a bowl.
  3. Gradually add the heated milk to the egg mixture, stirring constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat until it coats the back of a spoon.
  5. Add vanilla extract to the custard and pour into a large bowl to cool.
