Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 5 eggs (separated)

Instructions

  1. Mix flour and baking powder and set aside.
  2. Cream together sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg yolks one at a time and beat until fluffy.
  4. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with flour.
  5. Stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Fold in beaten egg whites gently until combined.
  7. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
  8. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45 minutes to 1 hour, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
