Ingredients

  • canned or fresh snapped beans
  • salt
  • pepper
  • sugar
  • bacon drippings
  • cut up potatoes

Instructions

  1. Place string beans in a heavy pot with plenty of water or bean juice from canned beans.
  2. Add salt, pepper, sugar, and bacon drippings to taste.
  3. Add cut-up, peeled potatoes if desired.
  4. Bring to a boil and cook down until beans start to shrivel up.
  5. Reduce heat and simmer until done according to preference, which may take a couple of hours.
  6. Be sure to add more water if necessary during cooking.
