Ingredients

  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. fat (1/2 c. lard and 1/2 c. Crisco)
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 Tbsp. water or milk
  • 4 to 5 c. flour (plain)
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400° or 450° and bake until bottoms are browned.
  2. Cream sugar and fat together until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in water or milk and vanilla.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
  7. Pour batter into greased or lined baking pans.
  8. Bake at the preheated temperature until the bottoms turn brown, about 10 minutes.
