Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sift cake flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar together into a large bowl.
  3. Add shortening, vanilla, and 2/3 cup of milk to the dry ingredients.
  4. Beat with an electric mixer on slow speed for 2 minutes.
  5. Add 1/3 cup of milk and eggs to the mixture.
  6. Beat for an additional 2 minutes.
  7. Pour batter into two well-greased 9-inch cake pans.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow cakes to cool before frosting or serving.
