Ingredients

  • 1/3 oz. margarine, softened
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 c. vegetable stock or chicken stock
  • 1 bay leaf
  • peppercorns
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tsp. white wine
  • grated cheese (your choice)

Instructions

  1. Peel the onion and slice into rings.
  2. Gently fry the onion slices in the softened margarine.
  3. Pour the vegetable or chicken stock over the fried onions.
  4. Add the bay leaf and peppercorns, then simmer for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Season with salt and white wine to taste.
  6. Sprinkle grated cheese of your choice on top before serving.
