Onion Tart

- Heat butter in a heavy saucepan and stir in thinly sliced onions. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until onions are almost transparent.
- Remove from heat and cool thoroughly.
- Stir in sliced mushrooms.
- In a bowl, combine sour cream with 4 tablespoons of sherry and three well-beaten eggs.
- Stir the sour cream mixture into the cooled onion and mushroom mixture.
- Season with salt, pepper, nutmeg, thyme, and cloves to taste.
- Line a 9-inch pie plate with unbaked flaky piecrust.
- Fill the piecrust with the onion mixture and top with bacon squares.
- Bake at 350°F until filling is firm and crust is lightly browned.
- Serve hot.
