Ingredients

  • 4 cups buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup Crisco
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 10 cups flour
  • 4 packages yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water

Instructions

  1. Mix yeast in warm water; set aside.
  2. Mix buttermilk, shortening, and sugar.
  3. Add the yeast mixture to the buttermilk mixture.
  4. Add flour gradually to make a soft dough.
  5. Pour onto a greased surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes.
  6. Put the dough into a large greased bowl and turn to grease both sides.
  7. Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight.
  8. Next morning, pinch out the rolls into desired shapes.
  9. Place the rolls in a greased pan.
  10. Let the rolls rise for 2 to 3 hours.
  11. Brush the rolls with butter.
  12. Bake at 420°F until golden brown.
  13. Dough can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
  14. Serve while hot with butter.
