- Mix yeast in warm water; set aside.
- Mix buttermilk, shortening, and sugar.
- Add the yeast mixture to the buttermilk mixture.
- Add flour gradually to make a soft dough.
- Pour onto a greased surface and knead for 6 to 8 minutes.
- Put the dough into a large greased bowl and turn to grease both sides.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate overnight.
- Next morning, pinch out the rolls into desired shapes.
- Place the rolls in a greased pan.
- Let the rolls rise for 2 to 3 hours.
- Brush the rolls with butter.
- Bake at 420°F until golden brown.
- Dough can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
- Serve while hot with butter.
