- Combine yeast, shortening, sugar, salt, and 3 cups of the flour in a large mixing bowl.
- Heat milk to 120° to 130°F.
- Add the heated milk to the yeast mixture and beat 200 strokes.
- Stir in as much of the remaining flour as possible to form a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
