Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup cold water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream shortening, cocoa, and sugar.
  2. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  3. Alternately add water and flour mixture, including baking powder, baking soda, and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
  4. Pour batter into a greased and floured tube pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 1 hour.
